The 19th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was marked in Ukraine. Initiated by the Islamic Conference Youth Forum, the Union of Azerbaijani Youth in Ukraine and the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Dnepropetrovsk, street procession and a ceremony of commemoration of victims of the Khojaly genocide was conducted in Dnepropetrovsk, the Union of Azerbaijani Youth in Ukraine told Trend.

The chairman of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Dnepropetrovsk Gudrat Hajiyev, adviser to the Dnepropetrovsk mayor on national affairs Hafiz Aslanov, a diplomat of the Azerbaijani embassy Yegana Gafgazli, a member of Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Rauf Ibrahimov and others made speeches at the commemoration ceremony, attended by officials of Dnepropetrovsk region, heads of diasporas of many peoples living in the region. According to them, the atrocities committed by the Armenians 19 years ago in Khojaly are a continuation of two centuries gradual policy of genocide, committed by the Armenians against the Azerbaijani people.

The Armenian military forces committed genocide in Khojaly on Feb. 26, 1992. More than 600 people were killed, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old men. A total of 1,000 civilians were disabled during the genocide. Eight families were annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, and 25 lost both. Additionally, 1,275 peaceful residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 remains unknown.
