Nagorno Karabakh is an inseparable part of Azerbaijan. The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be resolved as soon as possible, and internally displaced persons should return to their homes, Ivo Vaygl, a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the European Parliament (EP) told journalists in Aghdam region, Azerbaijan.

"The OSCE is making enough efforts to resolve the conflict," Vaygl said "But the Minsk Group, with activities of which I am familiar for 12 years, is unable to resolve this issue. The United States and Russia should make an effort to solve this problem. The European Parliament will also strive for this."

Vaygl visited Aghdam region as part of his visit to Azerbaijan on Monday. MEP met with internally displaced persons to get familiar with their living conditions.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
