Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan will undergo political charges due to his aggressive statement, Aydin Mirzazadeh, MP of Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, the head of the political analysis and forecasting department at the executive secretariat of Azerbaijan's ruling New Azerbaijan Party, told Trend on Sept. 26.
He was commenting on the recent statement by Sargsyan, who claimed Nagorno-Karabakh is an integral part of Armenia.
"By this statement Armenian president admitted a gross violation of the principles of international law", - he added.
Armenian President made the statement at the meeting of the Armenian State Commission on Coordination of the events dedicated to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the so-called Armenian genocide.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
