( RIA Novosti ) - A cargo ship carrying 2,000 metric tons of sulfur sank during a storm at the port of Kavkaz in southern Russia, the Novorossiisk port administration said on Sunday.
"According to reports from the Kavkaz port, a dry cargo ship sank in the Sea of Azov. The crewmembers boarded a rescue raft. Their life is not in danger," said Vladimir Yerygin, the head of the Novorossiisk port administration.
This is the second shipwreck at the same port on November 11 - earlier the tanker Volga-Neft carrying more than 4,000 metric tons of fuel oil split apart, with over 1,000 metric tons of fuel oil spilled into the sea.
The Kavkaz port authorities are taking measures to relocate 50 vessels to safer areas due to the worsening of weather conditions, the Russian Transport Ministry said.
