( dpa )- A 9-year-old girl has been found hanged in the bedroom of her Hong Kong home, police said Thursday.
Her 38-year-old mother returned home Wednesday evening to discover the girl hanging by a rope from a window frame of their apartment. She was rushed to a hospital but declared dead on arrival.
Police said Thursday that a suicide note had not been found, and an investigation was underway to determine whether her death was an accident or suicide.
Youth suicide in the city of 6.9 million people is not uncommon, and sociologists say pressure to succeed academically and poor communication between children and busy parents are contributing factors.
In September, a 12-year-old Hong Kong schoolboy hanged himself after a row with his mother over an electronic game.
