One Person Dies While removing Consequences of Hurricane, in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Lankaran, 21 February / corr. Trend P. Aliyeva/ On 20 Feb, one person died while removing the consequences of hurricane that struck the southern region of Azerbaijan.

Agayev Shirvan Veli oglu, 42, the employee of the electricity distribution network of Lankaran region of Azerbaijan, fell on a high voltage line while carrying out his duty, Ramiz Nabiyev, the prosecutor general of Lankaran region said to Trend on 21 February.

On the night of 20 February, the hurricane that took place in southern regions of Azerbaijan- Yardimli, Lerik and Lankaran inflicted a serious damage to the electricity and communication supply of the city. The strong hurricane knocked down 75 poles of electricity transmission lines and the 5km long electricity lines fell on the road, Etibar Farrukov, the department head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Lankaran region said to Trend .

The strong hurricane is expected to continue in the country till 21 February, Umayra Tagiyeva, deputy head of the National Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan said to Trend on 20 February.

According to Farrukov, as a result of this hurricane there are breaks in the electricity supply of Yardimli region. The hurricane also knocked down four poles with the communication lines.
