"For 8 months of 2009, over 5,000 traffic accidents occurred in the country killed 1,045 people and injured 5,809 people," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, buses caused 195 traffic accidents, which killed 31 people and injured 243.

"From now by late October 2009, the Ministry's Transport Control Committee is conducting the Republican Tachograph campaign, which aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents (TA)," the press-service reported.

According to an analysis conducted by the Ministry, 20 percent of traffic accidents, including the most serious, committed by drivers who fail to observe the regime of work and rest, in particular, at international traffic.

"All this, as well as topicality of the use of tachographs on vehicles became the motive for the action. For example, during a similar campaign in 2008, 625 drivers were involved in the administrative responsibilities and they fined worth over 3.8 million tenge," noted the Ministry of Transport.

During the current "Tachograph" action, inspection will be conducted on vehicles carrying dangerous goods, the implementation of international road transport of passengers, baggage and freight, intercity and interregional regular and irregular road transport.
