An armed man killed five police officers in north-west Afghanistan, an official said Friday, reported dpa.
"The man attacked a local police outpost Thursday morning in Qadis district, shooting five policemen dead," said Mirwais Mirzakwal, chief of the media affairs department for the governor of Badghis province.
According to local media, the attacker was a member of the Local Police, but the official did not confirm it, saying it was not yet clear who he was.
"An investigation team has been sent to the area and will look into the incident," he said.
The Afghan Local Police force was formed by the government and the US army to ensure security in remote villages, where the Afghan army and police are not stationed.
