Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / The president of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, Mahmoud Karimov, stated on 18 April that proper researches should be carried out into the mass cemetery found in Guba and Neftchala regions of Azerbaijan.

He noted that the necessity of a medical examination, study the matter by historians, and search of necessary data in the archives. "After the completion of this work, it will be possible to make a conclusion in this respect," Karimov said.

A State Commission has been established to conduct researches in this connection.

He did not rule out the possibility of involving the foreign experts in the researches. "Anyway, the initial researches should be conducted by local experts, as we do not have exact information on the burial places. The people might die as a result of massacre or any epidemic occurrences," Karimov said.

Mass burial places have been recently found in Guba and Neftchala regions of Azerbaijan. The skeletons are supposed to be the remains of the Azerbaijanis mercilessly killed by the Armenians in 1918.
