Monetary Assistance to be Rendered to Families of Victims Killed in Collapse of 16-Storey Building - Baku Prosecutor

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The identities of five people who died during the collapse of a sixteen-storey building under construction in Baku have been identified. The name of another one of the victims is being ascertained, Baku Prosecutor, Aziz Seyidov, reported on 29 August.

The bodies of the victims were delivered to their native regions. Three of them were residents from the Astara region's Arjivan village, one from Gazakh region, and one from Ganja city. Seyidov noted that local authorities had been charged with providing support to the victims' families in organizing the funerals, as well as with rendering monetary assistance.

According to the Prosecutor, probably another four people are still alive and trapped in the ruins. Four people are being detained regarding the building's collapse, two of them are functionaries of the Mutafakkir company which was responsible for the construction, Seyidov noted.

The Baku City Prosecutor's Office filed a criminal case in accordance with Articles 222.2 (violation of security regulations in construction work, mining or other work resulting in death) and 222.1 (violation of construction safety regulations) of the Criminal Code.
