Officials of Baku City Executive Administration May be Questioned : Baku’s Prosecutor

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / The Baku City Administration has not been questioned regarding the collapsed building in Baku, the Prosecutor Aziz Seidov, a member of the investigation team established for the incident which occurred in Baku, said to the Trend Agency.

Hajibala Abutallibov, the Baku City Executive Administration as well as other persons will be questioned if necessary, Seidov said.

The building which was under construction by the Mutaffakir company collapsed on 28 August at about 6:00 p.m. As a result, twenty-four people died and five were injured. According to official reports, three more people are presumed to still be buried under the ruins.

The Baku Prosecutor's Office has filed a case in accordance with Articles 222.2 (violation of safety regulations during construction, mining and other work, resulting in death and injury) and Article 222.1 (violation of safety regulations during construction work) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. A preventive research group has been formed with the Prosecutor's Office and the Emergency Situations Ministry.

The Director-General of the Mutaffakir construction company, Ali Muradov, the company's Engineer General, Askar Aliyev, master builders Farhad Hasanov and Gadir Salimov, were all detained in connection with the incident. They have each been sentenced to three months imprisonment.

The Baku City Yasamal District Court sentenced Akif Maharramov, the head of the Housing Department of Baku City Executive Power, to three months imprisonment in accordance with Article 308.1 (abuse of power) of the Azerbaijan Criminal Code.

Seidov denied the information that the body of Mursalov Elnur Ilyasoglu 20, the resident of Karimbayli village of Salyan region, was not found. "All the bodies buried under the collapsed building have been removed," Seidov added.
