IAEA May Render Technical Assistance to   Azerbaijan: Azerbaijani  Ambassador

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the IAEA is being discussed within the framework of participation of the Azerbaijani National Scientific Academy's delegation headed by Mahmud Karimov in Vienna.

The main attention will be to concentrate on rendering technical assistance to Azerbaijan by the IAEA, Fuad Ismaylov, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Austria said.

The President of the Academy will deliver a speech at the session with the report and touch upon the issue concerning construction of the first nuclear radar station in Azerbaijan, the director of the Radiation Problem Institute of the Academy, Aydin Garibov, reported to Trend Agency. According to Garibov, the Azerbaijani Government allowed the construction of the nuclear reactor.

Once the issue is approved at the General Assembly of the IAEA, construction of the radar will be commenced from 2009, Garibov said.

The General Assembly will also consider the issue concerning installment of products and sterilization equipment meeting international standards. The IAEA has already given its permission for installment of the equipment in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan became a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in May 2001. Azerbaijan has already joined IAEA's twelve conventions.
