Azerbaijan’s Musavat Party to Nominate its Chairman for Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / The meeting of the Azerbaijani Musavat party's administration on 12 October decided to nominate its chairman, Isa Gambar, for presidential elections to take place in 2008, the head of Musavat's central executive administration, Arif Hajily, said to Trend.

The administration unanimously decided to take part in the presidential elections and to nominate only Gambar.

In his speech Gambar said that he supported the decision of the party regarding taking part in the elections. According to him, he will try to justify the trust of the Musavat members.

The meeting also decided to reduce the age requirement for admission to the youth organization of the party from 35 to 29.

Opposition Musavat party was founded at the beginning of 1992. Its leader, Isa Gambar, was the speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament between 1992 and 1993. In 2003, he ran for presidency. The party is represented by 5 MPs in the Parliament.
