Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend / In the near future Azerbaijan will hold the next round of bilateral consultations on the delimitation of the Caspian seabed with Iran and Turkmenistan, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, Khalaf Khalafov, said in Baku on 18 October.
The second summit to determine the Caspian Sea's status, which included the Presidents of the Caspian Sea's littoral countries, took place in Teheran on 16 October. According to Khalafov, the Presidents did not discuss the delimitation of the sea's bed.
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Russia have agreements on delimitation of the Caspian seabed. But due to Iran's claims urging delimitation of the bed into five equal parts, the issue on the Caspian Sea's legal status continues to remains open since the collapse of the USSR.
