Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry to Investigate Incident Including Russian Embassy’s Official in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry will investigate the issue concerning run over of Azerbaijani citizen by an official of the Russian embassy in Baku, Vagif Sadigov, the deputy Foreign Minister, said on 1 November.

The automobile of the Russian embassy in Azerbaijan crashed with taxi and run over the driver. Elchin Gachayzadeh, the taxi driver died The accident happened in Baku on 27 October.

The Baku Police Station did not announce the name of the embassy's automobile driver. Sadig Gezalov, the head of the Interior Ministry's press-service, denied the information about that the Russian Ambassador Vasili Istratov drives the automobile.

"The driver of the embassy's automobile was the employee of the Russian embassy in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani Interior Ministry holds investigation on the case. Wee should clear a range of issues concerned with the accident. Now I cannot detail the accident," the deputy Interior Minister said.

In compliance with international laws officials of Foreign structures possess right of immunity.

Azerbaijan cannot bring an action against the official of the embassy. We can also ask Russia to institute proceedings against the official of the embassy, Sadigov said.

If the connection of the Russian official to the accident to be proved then the Russian Government should cancel immunity of the official.
