EU Not planning to Expand Geography New Neighborhood Policy: Commissar
Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / The European Union ha snot plans to expand the geography of the New Neighborhood Policy.
"The key task is to consolidate the relations with partner countries and seriously work over the Action Plan on Individual Partnership. Action program on Armenia and EU with in the framework of the EU New Neighborhood Policy ha enacted into law," Benita-Ferrera Waldner, the EU Commissar on Foreign Relations said in a mailed interview.
It does not mean that the EU does not put any effort to come closer with the 'neighbors of neighbors'. The EU cannot stand aside of such problems such as illegal migration and energy issues, she said. Moreover, the Strategy of Central Asia and Energy Proposal in the Black Sea have been developed and both documents are directed at establishment of closer regional cooperation, the EU commissar said.
The achievements gained over the past period of implementation of the New Neighborhood Policy testify for positive results from the reforms in these countries.
Azerbaijan joined the EU New Neighborhood Policy in November 2006, signing an agreement with the EU. Under the program the sides cooperate in ten political and economic spheres, improvement of democratic society in Azerbaijan.
