Azerbaijan and Council of  Europe to Implement Support of Strategy in Struggle against Corruption Project

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The Azerbaijani Government and Council of Europe signed an agreement to launch a project of technical assistance: 'Support of strategy in the struggle against corruption in Azerbaijan'.

The project is a part of the program of cooperation between the Council of Europe and the South Caucasus, the Council of Europe Baku Office stated.

Assistance will be rendered to Azerbaijan to implement recommendations of international structures on the struggle against corruption during the two year program. The project is being financed by the United States International Development Association. A memorandum will be signed by Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe.

Corruption is a relevant problem in Azerbaijan, stated the Head of Staff of the Executive Administration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehtiyev.

According to Mehtiyev, Azerbaijan is cooperating with international organizations and taking serious steps in the struggle against corruption.

Azerbaijan is implementing national strategies in order to increase the struggle against corruption from 2007 to 2011. The Government is ready to cooperate with international structures in this direction. The new signed memorandum on cooperation with the Council of Europe will give positive results.
