Azerbaijani Opposition Party to Appeal to Supreme Court

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. D.Babayeva / A session on the appeal by the Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP) against Baku Executive Administration was implemented on 18 December, stated ANIP's press secretary Ali Orujev.

ANIP submitted an appeal to the Sabail District Court on the decision of the Baku Executive Administration not to sanction rallies. The party demanded restoration of the freedom of assembly.

However, Sabail District Court did not satisfy the appeal on 22 October. The decision of the Sabail Court was remained in force by the decision of the Baku Appeal Court under the chairmanship of the Judge Mirza Tagizadeh.

Orujev said that the party would appeal to the Supreme Court of the country on the decision by the Baku Appeal Court.

ANIP was the first party received registration in Azerbaijan in 1992. Etibar Mammadov had been the founder and chairman of the party by 2004. Presently, Mammadov is the deputy chairman of the International Democratic Alliance.
