Azerbaijanis Residing in   Georgia Forced to Vote for Mikhail Saakashvili: Head of Diaspora Organization

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Alizade /The government officials force the Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia to vote for the candidate of the government, former President Mikhail Saakashvili. "A majority of the Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia support the candidate from the combined opposition, Levan Gachechiladze. Unlike previous election, this time, the Azerbaijanis are actively participating in the elections," the Chairman of the ' Georgia is My Native Land' Society of the Georgian Azerbaijanis, Ali Babayev, reported to Trend by on 5 January.

The post of President is being claimed by Mikhail Saakashvili, retired State Head, Levan Gachechiladze, a candidate from the National Council of Opposition, Shalva Natelashvili, Head of Labor Party, David Gamkrelidze, leader of opposition New Rights Party, Irina Sarishvili, leader of Hope Party, Georgi Maisashvili, head of Party of Future, and entrepreneur Badri Patarkatsishvili.

Representative of Levan Gachechiladze's election headquarter, Ali Babayev, said that the election process took place in the morning hours in the regions densely populated by the Azerbaijanis in a normal manner. However, serious violations were registered in the day time in the regions of Marneuli, Dumanisi, Gardabani. The representatives of the government put pressure on the electors, he said.

According to Babayev, a majority of the Azerbaijanis residing in Georgia removed to Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries for jobs. He added that the Azerbaijanis have been named in the election list and after the elections complete, their ballots will be counted in favor of Mikhail Saakashvili.
