The Georgians in   Azerbaijan Vote for Saakashvili and Entrance to NATO

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynov / Absolute majority of voters in the polling station being organized in Georgia's Embassy in Azerbaijan with regards to the presidential elections in Georgia on 5 January voted for Mikhail Saakashvili. "Of 699 voters participating in the elections, 93% voted for Mikhail Saakashvili," the Embassy's Advisor, Mamuka Balavadze, reported to Trend on 6 January.

The early presidential elections took place in Georgia on 5 January. According to the data by the Central Election Commission of Georgia, by the half day of 6 January, Mikhail Saakashvili collected 57% of the votes Levan Gachechiladze - 28.

The candidate from the combined opposition, Levan Gachechiladze, collected 4% of the votes in Baku and other candidates - 3%, Balavadze said.

In addition to the presidential elections, the voters had to answer two questions regarding Georgia's entrance to NATO and date of the parliamentary elections - spring or autumn of 2008. Some 94% of the voters in Baku voted for Georgia's entrance to NATO and 51% for conducting parliamentary elections in spring, Balavadze said.
