GUAM Secretary-General Urges World Community’s Support to Intensify Peaceful Settling of Conflicts (video)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 January / Trend corr K. Ramazanova / The world community's support for the peaceful settlement of conflicts should be intensified, Valeriy Chechelashvili, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova), said to journalists.

"This also concerns the UN's draft resolution on frozen conflicts in the GUAM territory, which was released by the General Assembly at the end of last year. And now our countries are holding active consultations with our potential allies to achieve progress," Chechelashvili said.

"We are ready to cooperate with any organization or an initiative group which would assist us in the peaceful settlement of the on-going conflicts," he said. As to Kosovo, he said that the international community unanimously believes that Kosovo is a special case and it cannot be a precedent for the settlement of any other frozen conflicts. "We will patiently explain our position at all international forums. We are gaining more and more associates to support our position," Chechelashvili said.

The establishment of the peacekeeping forces of GUAM has never been amongst the most urgent tasks of the organization although the issue is still being considered, he said.
