Azerbaijani Peacemakers in Kosovo and Afghanistan to Return to Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 January / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / The seven soldiers, who completed their military service in Afghanistan within the peacemaking division of the National Army of Azerbaijan, will return to Azerbaijan on 25 January, Elkhan Shalbuzov, the commander of peacemaking battalion of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, reported in his interview to journalists.

According to the commander, 11 Azerbaijani soldiers, who served their military service, within the peacemaking division in Kosovo, will also return to home.

The peacemaking division and later the battalion were formed in the National Army of Azerbaijan in 1997.The 150 peacemakers of the Azerbaijani National Army serve in the armed forces in Iraq, 34 in Kosovo and 45 in Afghanistan.

According to Shalbuzov, the soldiers have been trained for six months prior to their departure to serve military services within the peacemaking divisions.

About 1,000 Azerbaijani soldiers have already served their time in Iraq. Should military operations be restored to liberate the Azerbaijani occupied territories, the soldiers will be called up for military service again, he said.
