Azerbaijani Opposition Parties Postpone Discussions on Establishment of New Structure

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 February / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / Eighteen Azerbaijani opposition parties have postponed the acceptance of Position of the new Centre of Democratic elections. "The 18 parties had signed an agreement on cooperation, but did not participate in meetings of the Centre," Ahmad Oruj, the chairman of Azadlig party, stated to Trend.

In December 2007, the Azerbaijani 18 oppositional parties signed an agreement on cooperation. Theses are Communist Popular Front Party, Social-Democratic, Citizen Solidarity, Great Establishment, Azadlig, National-Democratic, Adalat, Umid, Way of Azerbaijan and the others, which united in the Our Azerbaijan bloc.

The eight out of 18 parties, Communist Popular Front Party, Azadlig, National-Democratic, Open Society, Great Azerbaijan, United Popular Front, Takamul and Greens parties, took a decision to establish the Democratic election centre. The differences are with those parties who joined the Our Azerbaijan bloc.

Communist Popular Front Party, Azadlig, National-Democratic, Open Society, Great Establishment, Great Azerbaijan, United popular Front, Takammul and Greens parties -participated in the meeting on 6 February.

Azadlig chairman noted that the acceptance of the Position is expected in the near future. The Centre will hold a round table dedicated to the pre-election situation in the country, with participation of the representatives of opposition and international organizations.
