Azerbaijani Opposition Centre’s Format Changed

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 February / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The statute of the Democratic Election Centre (DEC), represented as a new structure of the 18 united opposition parties, was passed by nine parties on 22 February, Ahmad Oruj, the chairman of Azadlig party, stated to Trend .

Oruj said that the DEC would function as the centre of the Classic Popular Front, Azadlig, National-Democratic, Great Establishment, Popular Front of Unified Azerbaijan, Open Society, Takamul and Greens parties.

"The last version of statute will be approved during the Karabakh forum on 25 February, which will be held by DEC," Oruj stated.

In December 2007, over 18 opposition parties of Azerbaijan signed an agreement on cooperation. The parties are Communist Popular Front, Social-Democratic, Civil Solidarity, Great Establishment, Azadlig, National Democracy, Adalat, Umid, and political movement Way of Azerbaijan, as well as eight parties joined in the Our Azerbaijan bloc. On 30 Jan, the nine parties -Classic Popular Front, Azadlig, National-Democratic, Great Establishment, Popular Front of Unified Azerbaijan, Open Society, Takamul and Green took a decision of establishing the Democratic Election Centre.
