Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 March / Trend corr E. Huseynli/ Under an individual program signed between NATO and Azerbaijan within the framework of the Partnership for Peace, servicemen of the Azerbaijani National Army joined international events which are taking place in Turkey, Austria and the Netherlands on 3 March, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry told Trend .
The foundation for cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO was laid by signing a program-document within the framework of the Partnership for Peace on 4 May 1994. Azerbaijan was the first amongst the 27 OSCE member countries to join the program. In April 1996, an official document envisaging concrete directions in cooperation was signed under the Partnership for Peace program. Now, through the program Azerbaijan is fulfilling about 50 tasks.
In August 2005, the Azerbaijani President signed the Decree on Approval of the Working Plan on Individual Partnership between Azerbaijan and NATO. The two sides are currently cooperating within the framework of the second stage of the Working Plan.
Azerbaijani servicemen are taking part in the 18th annual oversight meeting, the training 'Humanitarian Operations during Natural Disasters' in Izmir, Turkey, as well as in 'Headquarter Training' in the Netherlands.
Moreover, the Azerbaijani servicemen will participate in the final planning conference in Tirana on 4 March.
