Azerbaijan, Baku, 13 March / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The United Intelligentsia of Azerbaijan (UIA) will support an independent candidate during the presidential elections. The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held in autumn 2008.
"UIA plans to support a candidate who will represent the population," Eldaniz Guliyev, UIA chairman stated to Trend .
The candidature of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as well as Isa Gambar, leader of Musavat party, Sardar Jalaloglu, chairman of Democratic arty, Igbal Agazadeh, chairman of Umid, Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment, and Rasul Guliyev, chairman of Open Society party have been nominated for the presidential post.
Most of the population does not believe in the opposition and Government, Guliyev said. "We will support the candidate who does not represent any party or Government. Political parties tend not to have reform programs for when they occupy the Government," Guliyev said.
UIA is considering Eldar Namazov as a possible candidate, leader of the Public Forum for Azerbaijan.
