Azerbaijani Opposition Azadlig Bloc to Take Decision on Participation in Presidential Elections in May

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 March / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / The Azerbaijani opposition Azadlig bloc will take decision on its participation in the upcoming presidential elections in the end of May, Ali Aliyev, Azadlig co-chairman and chairman of Citizen and Development Party, stated to Trend .

Azadlig stated the bloc was to boycott the upcoming presidential elections if no changes to be made in composition of Central election commissions. Isa Gambar, chairman of Musavat party, and Sardar Jalaloglu, chairman of Democratic party, have already nominated their candidature for presidential post from opposition camp.

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn 2008. The ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party (YAP) stated that it would nominate the candidature of President Ilham Aliyev.

Azadlig unites three opposition parties Popular front, Liberal and Citizen and Development parties.

Aliyev said bloc's chance to join the elections was exhausted. According to him, if a favorable condition to be created to the end of May, then bloc will take a decision on participation in the presidential elections. Azadlig will nominate one candidate in the case of participation in the elections, Aliyev noted.
