Women to Hold Majority of Electorate in Azerbaijani Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 April / corr. Trend S. Ilhamgizi/ According to a preliminary report of Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan, the number of voters will make up 834,584 people, Mazahir Panahov, the CEC chairman said to Trend on 7 April in a press conference.

According to Panahov, the process of determining the voter's lists began in January and the divisional election committees completed this process on 5 March and its constituencies on 5 April.

According to Panahov, women make up 52% of the voters in Azerbaijan and the men 48%. The voters who turned 18 this year totals 55,000 (1.15%), 1,864,125 are aged up to 36 years, 2,200,925 are aged 36 to 55 and 894,560 are over the age of 55. The determining voters' lists will be fully completed in May, he said.

According to Panahov, the next presidential elections will be held on 15 October as in 2003. According to the legislation, the presidential elections are held every 5 years on the Wednesday in the second week of October.
