Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 April / corr. Trend G. Jabiyev/ The Opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) believes that the Government candidate will win over the Opposition candidate even in the most democratic elections.

"The DPA candidate Sardar Jalaloglu will lose to the government candidate led by Ilham Aliyev even in the case of democratic elections," said to Trend Gurban Mammadov, the member of DPA Supreme Council.

The DPA Supreme Council nominated Jalaloglu for the presidential elections on 16 February. Ilham Aliyev, the current President has been nominated from the ruling party.

According to Mammadov, there is no democratic election environment in the country at present. In spite of that DPA will take part in the presidential elections. "We hope that the government will fulfill the conditions of the opposition and provide good election atmosphere," said Mammadov.

The DPA activist believes that the Opposition can win elections only with a unified team.

The Right Wing DPA was founded in 1991 by Sardar Jalaloglu. The party maintained a radical position until January 2007 when it decided to establish a dialogue with the Government. As a protest, Rasul Guliyev, the former parliament speaker and his supporters turned down DPA and established the Open Society party.
