Several more Opposition Officials of Azerbaijan Resign

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 April / corr. Trend J. Babayeva/ Shamsaddin Rahimli, the first assistant to Isgandar Hamidov, the former chairman of National Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (NDPA), Suleyman Osmanoglu, the assistant on ideological issues, Asaf Hasanov, the assistant on organizational issues and Sevinj Hajiyeva, the head of Department for General Affairs of the Party have transferred to the Road of Azerbaijan Political Movement (RAPM), said the statement by the party officials on 14 April.

Isgandar Hamidov, Head of National Democratic Party of Azerbaijan and former interior minister, resigned from his post last week and quitting politics permanently.

The Party officials attributed their decision to the alliance agreement between NDPA and RAPM. "The alliance agreement between NDPA and RAPM, the movement's methods in fighting towards political targets as well as the party's political line all contributed to our decision," said the statement.

NDPA and RAPM signed the alliance agreement in April 2007.

The Boz Gurd (Grey Wolf) party was established in 1993. In 1994, it was registered at the Justice Ministry. In 1995, the Supreme Court annulled the registration due to the party's name. In order to solve the problem, the party was renamed the National and Democratic Party of Azerbaijan at its second meeting which was held in 1999. The chairman of party, Isgandar Hamidov, the former interior minister, has been in prison from 1995 to 2004 and was released in 2004 by the pardon decree of the President.

The opposition party RAPM was founded in 2004. Ilgar Gasimov, a retired lieutenant-general of justice of Russia is head of the Movement.
