Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 April / Trend corr. K.Ramazanova / Elmar Mammadyarov, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, stated during a press conference in Baku that unsolved conflicts on the territory of CIS countries causes a threat in the region.

The Minister noted that organized crime and illegal dealings in the occupied territories are easy. "We believe that these conflicts will be settled peacefully as there is no other way. The stagnant state in the occupied territories is affecting the development of the countries and international communities," Mammadyarov stated.

Within ten years GUAM has become an international organization and taken responsibility to integrate the Euro-Atlantic area. " GUAM countries try to demonstrate political and geopolitical priority in the organization," the Azerbaijani Minister said.

Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name; Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.
