Medvedov Refuses Unified Russia (video)

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 April / corr Trend A.Gasimova / Dmitriy Medvedev, the newly elected Russian President, has refused to become a member of Unified Russia Party. Medvedev made this statement while addressing the 9th conference of the party in Moscow on 15 April.

On 14 April, delegates to the conference of pro-Kremlin Unified Russia approved unilaterally certain changes to the charter of the party, enabling Putin, who has completed his presidency term, to become the chairman of the Party.

With respect to Putin's candidacy as the chairman, Medvedev called it as 'logical and timely'. "As the chairman, Putin will be able to strengthen the party and will lead to the formation of a powerful force," he stressed.

During the presidential elections on 2 March, Russian Prime Minister Dmitriy Medvedev was elected as the President of Russia. His inauguration is scheduled on7 May.
