UN Highly Appreciates   Azerbaijan’s Commitment to Tolerance

Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 April / corr. Trend S. Agayev/ The United Nations highly appreciates the traditional high tolerance of Azerbaijani society where various ethnic and religious groups co-exist. Sergey Orjonikidze, the director general of UN Department in Geneva and deputy UN Secretary General said in the opening of the exhibition of Azerbaijani photographers titled 'Country with Various Cultures: Power in Diversity'.

Orjonikidze said that an obvious example of Azerbaijan's commitment to the fundamental UN values as diversity and tolerance is the exhibition opened in the Palace of Nations in Geneva, Elchin Amirbayov, the permanent representative of Azerbaijan in UN Department in Geneva said to Trend by telephone on 18 April.

Thanking the Permanent Representation of Azerbaijan for its active role in the program of cultural events of UN, the director general of UN Department in Geneva stressed the importance of the exhibition.

He expressed his confidence that numerous photographs exhibiting the rich ethnic and religious palette of Azerbaijan will evoke interest in the exhibition for visitors.

Director-General of UN Department in Geneva highly appreciated the marked contribution of Azerbaijan to the discussions between various cultural and civilizations held under the UN auspice. He also emphasized an important role of Azerbaijan in realizing the initiative Alliance of Civilizations.
