Azerbaijani Opposition MP Group Calls Political Parties to Participate in Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 April / Trend corr. G.Jabiyev / The opposition MP group of Azerbaijan has called upon all the political parties to participate in the upcoming presidential elections.

"The key opposition forces should participate in the elections to create democratic conditions," MP Panah Huseyn, a member of Musavat MP group, stated to Trend .

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held in October 2008. The Azadlig bloc, which unites three opposition parties, is expected to boycott the elections if the framework of election commissions is not re-formed. However, the Musavat, Umid, Democratic, Great Establishment and Green party of Azerbaijan will participate in the presidential elections.

According to Huseyn, participation in elections is most optimal way to fight against the Authorities. MP does not agree with the statement that participation in the elections will give the Authorities a chance to create visible democratic environment in the country. The International community is informed about the situation in Azerbaijan, MP stated.

Huseyn considers the activity and struggle of the public significant for the development of democracy in the country. Participation of opposition in the elections might accelerate the public participation.
