President of Turkmenistan to Visit Baku for the first time

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 May /corr. Trend E.Huseynov / Works are being carried out on preparation of the first official visit of the President of Turkmenistan, Kurbangulu Berdimuhammedov, to Azerbaijan, a source at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported to Trend .

The exact date of the visit have not been confirmed yet and will be co-ordinated in the near future through diplomatic means, the same source stated. A Governmental delegation is expected to visit Baku for this purpose.

The talks will co-ordinate the list of documents that will be signed during the visit and cover various spheres of bilateral co-operation, a source at Turkmen Foreign Ministry who wished to be unknown said.

The relations between the two countries were re-established after election of the new President of Turkmenistan, Kurbangulu Berdimuhammedov. In November 2007 Azerbaijan's representative for problems of Caspian's status, Khalaf Khalafov, visited Ashgabat and discussed development of the bilateral relations.

In January an Azerbaijani Governmental delegation headed by the First Vice Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov visited Ashgabat. The meetings with the leadership of Turkmenistan covered intensification of the bilateral relations. The sides reached an agreement to re-establish activity of Turkmen Embassy in Baku after seven years break. In addition, the meeting of the Inter-Governmental Commission in Baku resolved one of the important problems between the two countries - the amount of Azerbaijan's State debt to Turkmenistan was determined. Currently the sides work on the project of the bilateral agreement on Caspian's division into national sectors.

In March during conversation, the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan highlighted the wish to intensify bilateral relations.
