Bulgaria Interested in Cooperation with Azerbaijan in Energy Sector: President

Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 May / corr Tend News S.Agayeva / Bulgaria is interested in the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan in energy sector. It is necessary to intensify work over the development of cooperation between he two countries in the energy sector, Bulgarian President said in a meeting with Ogtay Asadov, the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, who is on an official visit to Sofia, the President's Administration told Trend .

Bulgaria wishes to intensify the work over the European project NABUCCO, which is part of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.

In future the major part of the gas pipeline will ensure resources supply to Azerbaijan, Pirvanov said.

Bulgaria can purchase limited volume of gas from Azerbaijan. "We can purchase from Azerbaijan approximately 1bln cu m of gas which is delivered to Turkey and Greece," Pirvanov said earlier in Baku. Bulgaria is also eager to join actively to a new project Burgas-Aleksandropulos.

NABUCCO gas pipeline with the length of 3,300km guarantees delivery of some 30bln cu m of gas a year to the Central Europe by 2015. This gas pipeline is an alternative to the Russian gas supply to Europe.

Bulgargaz, Turkish Botas, Romanian Transgaz, Hungarian MOL, Austrian OMV and German RWE participate in NABUCCO Company Pipeline with respect to scrutinize the project.

During the meeting with the Azerbaijan Speaker the Bulgarian President stressed the importance of intensifying the work over the Azerbaijani-Bulgarian cooperation in the economic sector, including in the railway transport.
