Presidential Elections to Show Level of Democracy in   Azerbaijan – British Organization

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 May / Trend corr M. Aliyev/ "The upcoming presidential elections will show the level of democracy in Azerbaijan," Dennis Sammut, head of the South Caucasus parliamentary initiative of the British LINKS NGO, said in Baku on 23 May.

"We are sure that Azerbaijan will fulfil its obligation to hold democratic elections and we do not have right to doubt about that," Sammut said at the conference 'Azerbaijan 2008: Way to Modernization' organized by the Strategic Research Centre attached to the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration.

LINKS was established in 1997 and now works in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Northern Cyprus, Turkey and Ukraine. LINKS projects are financed by the UK Government, Foreign Ministries of Switzerland and Ireland, Governments of Sweden and Netherlands and partially by European Commission.   

LINKS South Caucasus parliamentary initiative was established on the basis of the MOU signed by the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia in 2003 for dialogue and viewpoint exchange.
