President of Azerbaijan Positively Assesses Results of Kiev Summit

Ukraine, Kiev, 23 May /corr. Trend Z.Novosvitiski / The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, positively assessed the results of the Kiev Energy Summit which took place on 22-23 May.

"I consider that the results of this Summit are very positive and I believe that we will have much positive information by the next summit," Aliyev said to a press-conference as a result of the Kiev Energy Summit.

The participants of the third Energy Summit signed Kiev declaration on the principles of global energy security, joint statement on Caspian-Black Sea-Baltic energy transit zone, as well as joint statement of the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine on the project of Eurasian oil transportation corridor.

"The energy corridor will lead to further development of our co-operation. Transport corridor, humanitarian corridor will help improvement of understanding between our countries and serve their common interests," Ilham Aliyev said.

In addition, the President said that the Summit participants include producers, transit countries and consumers of energy resources. "It is very good example for how all these components of the energy policy should come together," said the Head of Azerbaijan.

Aliyev said that Azerbaijan, as an oil and gas producing country, has already achieved settlement of key challenges on energy supply and could diversify supplies to markets of various countries.

"We work very closely in order to support our partners, not only producers, but also consumers so that the consumers can choose their suppliers on competitive bases," said the President of Azerbaijan.

According to him, diversification is the key initial condition for the producers, consumers and transit countries.

"I consider that one of the most successful results of our today's discussions is unification of efforts of all participants and our devotion to the friendship and partnership which will give us an opportunity to resolve issues being targeted by us," Aliyev said.
