Russia wins Eurovision in Belgrade

Russia is victorious in this year's Eurovision song contest, with Dima Bilan fulfilling the nation's hopes and securing the victory with 272 points. Ukraine comes a distant second, RT reported.

Thousands are pouring into Serbia to watch Saturday evening's final in Belgrade.

The pop singer is planning a memorable performance, using an ice rink onstage for the first time in the history of the contest.

He'll have some good support, as Olympic figure skating champion Evgeny Plushenko will be strutting his stuff alongside him.

Bilan is no stranger to Eurovision - he came second to Finland's Lordi in 2006, but will now be aiming to go one better.

The contest is one of the biggest live TV shows in the world.

Millions tune in each year, with the winner selected by text message voting.
