Azerbaijani Opposition Proposed to Erect New   Independence  Monument

Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 May / Trend corr. E.Babayev / The Chairman of the opposition Citizen Solidarity Party (CSP) of Azerbaijan considers that a new Independence monument should be erected.

"The monument, erected in the Istiglaliyat street, resembles the European comb," Sabir Rustamkhanli, Chairman of CSP, stated in an event organized by the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Azerbaijani Democratic Republic (ADR).

The first democratic republic in the east was established in Azerbaijan in 1918. Azerbaijani Republic functioned for 23 months, created its army, national currency and National Emblem. Azerbaijani Republic lost its independence after the foreign forces.

Rustamkhanli said that one should make a court appeal against the Baku Executive Power as the monument of Mammadami Rasulzade before the Kukolniy Theatre in Baku was pulled down and a park was constructed in place of the monument.

Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Chairman of CSP and Executive Secretary of NAP, stated that Azerbaijan respects the persons, who served to establish the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan.
