No Azerbaijani Peacekeepers amongst Crashed Helicopter Victims in Afghanistan – Embassy

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 June /Тrend News corr S. Agayeva/ There are no Azerbaijani peacekeepers amongst the victims of helicopter that crashed in Afghanistan.

"In the southern Afghanistan, Kandagar province, two international servicemen died in a helicopter crash on 6 June," radio Svoboda reported. Citizenship of the victims was not reported.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Pakistan and that in Afghanistan have revealed that there are no Azerbaijani peacekeepers amongst the victims, Advisor at the Embassy Sabir Rzayev reported to Trend .

According to Rzayev, Azerbaijani peacekeepers are serving in Kabul. There are 45 Azerbaijani peacekeepers in Afghanistan within the multinational forces. A request was submitted to the Azerbaijani Parliament to increase their number to 100.

The number of Azerbaijani Armed Forces in Iraq totals 150 soldiers. 34 soldiers served in Kosovo. But in March, the Azerbaijani Parliament withdrew its Azerbaijani peacekeepers from Kosovo, due to the political situation which emerged in Kosovo after it separated from Serbia and proclaimed a one-sided independence.
