Date of Presidential Elections Approved in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 July/ Trend , corr E. Babayev/ The presidential elections in will be held on 15 October, Mazahir Panahov, chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of said at the meeting of the commission on 28 July. According to Panahov, CEC has conducted the preparations for the presidential elections on the high level. "The voters' lists have been developed from January on the high level. Good work conditions have been provided for the district election commissions and majority of them have been provided with new premises," CEC chairman said. The chairman of the Musavat party Isa Gambar, chairman of Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu, chairman of the Green Party Mais Gulaliyev, chairman of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev have been nominated for the presidential elections. The political expert Eldar Namazov has stated that he would run for presidency independently. Governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) is going nominate country's current President Ilham Aliyev. The pro-government Social Welfare and Ana Vatan parties will support the current president Ilham Aliyev. The Azadlig bloc, which unites three opposition parties -Popular Front party, Citizen and Development party and Liberal party, will boycott the presidential elections. OSCE plans to send 30 long-term and 450 short-term observers to observe the upcoming presidential elections.
