Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 August / Trend corr. E.Babayev / The two Azerbaijani opposition parties - Popular Front and Musavat, consider signing a document on the joint cooperation with regard to the upcoming presidential elections. "If we succeed to reach an agreement, we can take serious steps on cooperation. We may sign the document on the joint activity," Sulhaddin Akbar, the chairman of the Assembly of Musavat, told Trend on 7 August.

Akbar said that the leader of Musavat party, Isa Gambar, and chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Ali Karimli, had a posoitive attidute to the possible cooperation. "I think that the one position regrading the elections will create a favorable ground for oppostion joint activity. There is a favorable political ground for approching between PFPA and Musavat. Both parties may cooperate to  consider the elections and its results. It means, there is a necessety to consider the possibility of joint struggle during the pre-election period and after the elections as well. The democrtic elections are limited in Azerbaijan, and this factor is dictated with unity. Recently, media informs that the parties refusing from participation in the elections, may to create a coalition. Peharps, no organizational department will be established, but the joint activity is not excluded as well," Akbar said.

Gulamhuseyn Alibayli, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the PFPA, told Trend that PFPA and Musavat had been cooperated periodically. "It was impossible to hold the joint activity on the all issues. For some time, serious disputes took place between the parties. In spite of this fact, I believe that the parties can reach success on some issues and cooperate," Alibayli said.

Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan is the member and co-founder of the Azadlig bloc. Ex-President Abulfaz Elchibay was the founder and chairman of the party until 2000. Since 2000, former MP Ali Karimli has been the chairman of the party.
