Georgia's interior ministry says there have been new air attacks on a military base just outside the country's capital and in the area of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline that is a key route of Caspian oil bound for the West. ( AP )
Interior Ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili said there were also bombardments of two other Georgian military bases and of Poti, a strategically important port city on the Black Sea.
Utiashvili said early Saturday that there apparently were significant casualties and damage in the attacks, but that further details would not be known until the morning.
The reported bombardments came as Georgian forces fought separatists and Russian forces in the republic of South Ossetia in the second night of a massive conflict.
