Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 August /corr. Trend A.Gasimova / The President of Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, signed an order recognizing independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
"Taking into consideration the free expression of will of the Ossetians and Abkhazians, I signed an order recognizing independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia," Russian President said today, Vesti TV channel reported.
"Our country became mediator and peacekeeper, but we proceeded from the recognition of the territorial integrity of Georgia," the Head of Russia said.
On 25 August, the Council of Federation and State Duma unanimously supported the appeal to the President of Russia regarding recognition of independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
