Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 August / Trend corr. / Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening ceremony of the Paralympics Sport Complex in Sumgayit, nearby Baku.
A decision on construction of the complex was made after the Azerbaijani National Leader Heydar Aliyev's meeting with paralympians. The only complex in the Commonwealth of Independent States' countries is designed to hold domestic and international tournaments.
The construction, which began in 2005, cost AZN 3.1mln. There is an conference hall, training hall, hall for hand games, football and volleyball pitches, as well as swimming pool. Favorable conditions were created for free movement of disabled people. It is planned to construct a hotel at the complex.
National Leader Heydar Aliyev's bust was set up at foyer of the building.
