Georgia, Tbilisi, 10 September / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / The Georgian opposition New Rights Party demanded the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's resignation and holding new presidential and parliamentary elections in the country. "The current difficult state of Georgia is consequence of President Saakasvili's single-handed decision to bomb and assault Tskhinvali," David Gamkrelidze, the leader of the party said at a briefing in Tbilisi.

The leader of the party violated moratorium to criticize authorities through this speech and blamed them for decoupling of the Georgian-Russian conflict.

"War in Tskhinvali was a mousetrap prepared for Georgia and the United States, Europe and Georgian community warned the President on it. However, he did not listen to the voice of mind and made single-handed irresponsible decision to bomb Tskhinvali and as a result, we lost territories, which we kept under control," Gamkrelidze said.

"I know exactly that media, which is controlled by the authorities, will announce the New Rights as enemies, whilst the truth comes first and we are prepared to undertake this load," he said.

The opposition party will publicize its analyses on situation in the country soon. The party began to hold consultations with other opposition parties to develop unified policy plan on these conditions on 9 September.

According to Gamkrelidze, this conflict did not bring Georgia nearer to joining NATO, but held away from it. "It is unknown in which borders to accept us," he stressed.

The leader of the New Rights promised that if he is elected president, he will seek ways to restore territorial integrity of Georgia through peaceable way.
