Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 September/ Trend , corr J. Babayeva/ Ayaz Mutallibov, co-chairman of oppositional left wing Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA) says rumors about his quitting post of co-chairman of the party are not true.
їWhether to retain post of co-chairman of the party is my own business,ї Mutallibov said to Trend by telephone from Moscow.
SDPA is a lefty wing opposition party. The co-chairman of the party is Araz Alizade and the other co-chairman is Ayaz Mutallibov, former president who lives in immigration at present. Ayaz Mutallibov was elected first president in 1991 when Azerbaijan gained independence. Later an action was brought against him. He has been living in immigration in Russia since 1992.
The Central Committee of the SDPA held a meeting in the early September. Elshan Manafov, Mutallibovїs partner, who accused SDPA co-chairman Alizade of inability to run the party was dismissed from the party.
Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan will hold a conference on 27 September.
Mutallibov said it is not possible to run the party by telephone from a long distance.
їThough I have been running the party for the last five years, I can not come to my home land yet. If I ran the party right in Baku, there would be no rumors,ї he added.
He said he did not expect any serious changes take place in the next conference of the party.
їAll members of the party who accept socio-democratic policy and idea of the party are my partners,ї he said.
Mutallibov said certain processes within the party are natural. їWe have certain problems as other parties. We never hide them. We are democratic party,ї he said.
He said he will join conference of the party by telephone.
