Azerbaijani Defense Minister Vote at Presidential Elections in St.-Petersburg

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 October / Trend corr. E.Tariverdiyeva / About 60% of electors took part in the presidential elections of Azerbaijan at two polling stations in St.-Petersburg at 15.00p.m. [local time], Gudsi Osmanov, the Azerbaijani General Consul to St.-Petersburg, told Trend over telephone.

"The elections are progressing very well. It is too pleasant that many people, especially youth, are coming to vote with their families," Osmanov said.

A total of 1,317 people of 21,000 Azerbaijani citizens, who live in St.-Petersburg and have been registered by the Consul Department of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia, voted in the presidential elections. Safar Abiyev, the Azerbaijani Minister of Defense was amongst people voting at the Consulate General, as he is in a visit to St.-Petersburg. Abiyev is participating at a conference of the Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.

Seven candidates are participating in the 15 October elections, including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of ruling New Azerbaijan Party; Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party; Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party; Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party; Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party; Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.
