Representatives of European Parliament Highlight Good Technical Equipment of Presidential Elections in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 16 October /corr. Trend N.Abdullayeva / The representatives of the European Parliament highlighted good technical equipment of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan. The representatives of the European Parliament who observed the elections held a special press conference in Baku on 16 October.

Seven candidates participated in the 15  October presidential elections, including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of ruling New Azerbaijan Party; Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party; Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party; Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party; Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party; Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.

Ilham Aliyev has gained 89.04% of votes, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov told press conference.

Igbal Agazade gained 2.78%, Fazil Gazanfaroglu - 2.40%, Gudrat Hasanguliyev - 2.22%, Gulamhuseyn Alibayli - 2.18%, Fuad Aliyev - 0.75% and Hafiz Hajiyev - 0.62%, Panahov said.

The representative of the Parliament of Poland, Stanislav Zaents, said that he observed the election process at ten polling stations and did not reveal any violations.

"Azerbaijan is a stable country, and all conditions were created for the democracy. We are disappointed by the fact that the opposition did not use the conditions created for them," said Zaents.

A number of opposition leaders refused to participate in the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

The First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Estonia, Christina Ouland, said that during the observation in the elections in Azerbaijan, she met both with the representatives of authority and opposition. "Opposition could freely express its opinion. The Council of Europe did not agree with the boycotting of opposition," she said.
